ORA-00606: Internal error code
Cause: A call to deferred upi functions was made in non deferred mode
Action: Report as a bug.
Ora-00606 is an internal error code in Oracle which indicates an unexpected code internal error has occurred. It could be caused by invalid data or corrupted parameter values, a bug in the database code, or lack of memory when attempting to execute a query.
The official Oracle explanation for ORA-00606 is: “Internal error code, arguments [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string]”, where the strings (which may be empty) are aruguments to describe the issue.
Common cases of ORA-00606 include:
• Executing a query with an invalid or mismatched datatype.
• SYSAUX tablespace has become corrupt due to disk failure, power failure or problems with the operating system.
• Inaccurate query cost cardinality estimates leading to severe memory performance issues.
Resolving ORA-00606 involves addressing the underlying issue which caused the internal error. Potential techniques to troubleshoot ORA-00606 may include:
1. Check for any parameter/environment settings that have recently been changed.
2. Check if any of the SYSAUX tablespace segments have become corrupt by running dbverify.
3. Run the query with the EXPLAIN PLAN feature to check for improvidence and inaccurate cardinality estimations.
4. Increase the UNDO_RETENTION parameter and UNDO tablespace size to address performance issues with the query.
5. Utilize Oracle support services to obtain an automated patch or workaround to the issue.
